Harmony for Systems Engineering Deskbook version

Postby shanz » November 16th, 2009, 11:10 am

I'm currently using Dr Hans-Peter Hoffmann's Deskbook Release 3.0.
If anyone ever gets a newer version can they say so on this forum please?

Does anyone else use this at the moment? What do people think about it?
What's right and what's wrong with it?

If your journey to UML and Rhapsody has been through software then you're likely to find Dr Hoffmann's a little simplistic. His view is more suited to Electronic Engineers who are trying to make the jump to MDD.

I find BPD's take on Harmony more informative.

For me the really important aspect of an MDD process is to increase the number of reusable components and this can only happen through abstraction. Dr Hoffmann doesn't push this point.

I think you need to ask IBM. I don't suppose they would be very pleased if I gave you a copy.
They sell training on SysML and since my Company has paid for it in the past, that is why I can ask IBM for it I think.
They also sell the Rational Method Composer and maybe another similar product based on the EPF (Eclipse Process Framework) which would also probably qualify you for being able to receive the Deskbook for Systems Engineering.
Maybe an IBM employee here on the forum can clarify this?
